Parasites weed that infest the clover, alfalfa, sugar beet, linseed, onion are most susceptible. It develops from seed. These are parasitic twinning herbs with golden yellow wiry stems rudimentary scaly leaves in cluster of minute bell shaped flowers. The seeding service if they happen to find a proper host plant other wise they perish. Dodder dessiminate by seeds as well as by fragments.
Control:
Mowing prior to seed formation. Rotation of crops with dodder resistant crops. Corn, soybean and small grains are not susceptible to dodder. The control of dodder comprises use of clean seed and herbicidal control with either DCPA or Paraquat and 2.4-D.
