Properties and Function of Herbicide – Simazine, 2, 4,5 – T and TCA
Simazine (Tafazine): 2, Chloro – 4 – 6 bi-ethylamino Striazine.
It is selective herbicide belonging to triazine soil sterilent. It is systemic herbicide absorbed by roots and translocated to other parts of the plant. One of the marked actions of simazine on the plant is the inhibition of photosynthesis. It is white solid crystal, low soluble in water but slightly soluble in soluble in solvents.
Registered on number of crops viz. Corn, sugarcane controls Chenopodium album, Amaranths sp.
Formulations: Wetable powder and granular form.
2, 4, and 5 – T (2, 4, and 5 Trichlorophenoxy acetic acid):
It is a selective, translocated herbicide belonging to Phenoxy group.
Dose : 1 to 3 kg/ ha.
Application : Post Emergence.
The action is very similar to 2, 4 – D. It is more effective on leguminous certain weedy plants. It is solid powder soluble in organic solvents, registered for use in cereals against weeds, also in sugarcane and pasture.
Formulations: Soluble liquid and Emulsifiable liquid.
TCA (Trichloro acetic acid):
Selective translocated herbicide, but at higher dose, non-selective, soil sterilent.
Dose :
4-180 kg/ha. About 160 kg/ha acts as soil sterilent.
Application:
Pre and post emergence. The chemical is absorbed by plant leaves and distributed in the plant body. It is solid used in non cropped areas. Also used in sugarcane, bean, cabbage, tomato. It controls Cynodon ductylon, cactus (Opuntia).
Formulations: Soluble powder, granular form.
