Properties and Function of Herbicide – PMA, Propanil and Silvex
PMA (Phenyl Mercuric Acetate):
It is selective herbicide belonging to organomercurial group.
Dose : 2.5 kg/ha.
Application : Post Emergence.
Properties : Wettable powder and granular form.
Propanil (Stam F 34): (3, 4 Dichloro propionilide)
It is contact herbicide belonging to analide group.
Dose : 3 to kg/ha.
Application : Pose emergence.
Properties : It is light brown solid controls Cyperus rotundus, Elustine spp.
Formulations : Emulsifiable liquid.
Silvex: (2, 4, 5 – Trichlorophenoxy Propionic acid):
Trade name 2, 4, 5 – T Propionic acid. It is selective herbicide.
Dose : 0.5 to 2 kg/ha
Application : Pre and Post Emergence. The action is very similar to that of 2, 4 – D. It is solid, slightly Soluble in water.
Controls : Xanthium strumarium and many perennial broad Leaves weeds. It is more effective against some bushed and difficult herbaceous weeds than 2, 4 – D.
