Properties and Function of Herbicide – Paraquat and PCP
Paraquat (Gramoxone): 1.2 Dimcthyis 4-4 Bipyridium dichloride.
It is a contact non selective herbicide may be translocated to some extent.
More effective on grasses than broad leaved weeds.
Dose : 1 to 2 Kg/ha
Application : Post emergence.
Properties : It is liquid but solid in pure state. Yellow in colour.
Controls : All annual weeds and other plants.
Formulations : Emulsifiable liquid.
PCP (Penta Chloro Phenyl):
It is contact and non selective herbicide.
Dose : 2-15 kg/ha
Application : Pre or post emergence. It is crystalline and pure white.Low solubilizing in water. It is registered for use as both pre and Post emergence spray. On potato, sugarcane rice.
Formulations : Water soluble wettable powder and granule.
