Integrated Weed Management in Rice (Paddy)
i) Follow the preventive measures for introduction and further spread of weeds.
ii) Follow the crop rotation of pulses and oil seeds in Rabi and summer season under irrigated conditions for control of rice crop associated weeds.
iii) Carry out proper puddling operation for destroying weeds in transplanted paddy and proper land preparation, collection and destruction of weeds in direct seeded rice and also destroy newly germinated weeds by harrowing before sowing.
iv) Use good quality seed / seedling and plant protection measures for maintaining optimum population of the crop. Apply fertilizers by band application at proper time in optimum quantity.
v) Chemical and Mechanical methods: (RICE NURCERY)
a) Butachlor (Machet) @ 1 to 1.5 kg ai / ha about 4 to 7 days before or after sowing.
b) Butachlor @ 1 to 2.5 kg a i /ha or 2,4-D-ethyl easter granules @ 0.8 to 1.2 Kg ai / ha up to 10 days after transplanting and keep 3 to 7 cm standing water till 7 days later. In direct seeded rice apply pre-emergence spray of butachlor @ 1 to 2.5 ai / ha up to 3 to 5 days after sowing. Give one hoeing and weeding after about 25 to 30 DAS/DAT or Hand weeding at 21 days and 2,4-D @ 0/75 to 1 kg ae / ha. When the rice is in fully tillered stage, but before boot stage. The late emerging weeds can be destroyed by hoeing or weeding.
