Important Pests and Diseases of Mustard
A) Important Pests of Mustard:
a) Mustard Aphids:
N.D:
1. Nymphs and adults suck the cell sap from leaves, stem and pods.
2. Plant remains stunted and do not produce pod under severe attack.
b) Mustard Saw Fly:
N.D:
Larvae feed on leaves by leaving only veins.
C.M. (for both pests) :
1. Spraying of 0.03% dimethoate for 2 to 3 times at 15 days interval.
2. Spraying of 0.05’% endosulfan or Malathion.
B) Important Diseases Mustard:
a) Alternaria Blight:
Symptoms:
Brown coloured rounded spots appear on all the parts of plant with black outer ring.
C.M:
1. Spraying of dithane M – 45 @ 1.5 kg/ in 500 lit water.
2. Grow disease resistant varieties.
b) White Rust:
Symptoms:
White pustules appear on the lower surface of the leaves.
C.M:
1. Spraying of dithane – 78 (Zineb) @ 1.5 kg/ 500 lit water.
2. Grow disease resistant varieties.
